Subshrubs or shrubs, 2–10 dm, woolly to shaggy. Leaves silver-hairy; petiole 3–5 cm. Inflo­rescence bracts 10–15 mm. Racemes 15–25 cm. Flowers 11–16 mm.


Phenology: Flowering May–Jun.
Habitat: Open woodlands.
Elevation: 600–2000 m.

Variety abramsii is known only from the Santa Lucia Mountains of Monterey County.
