Vigna hosei

Vines perennial. Stems spreading or twining, slender, often numerous and rooting at nodes, pilose or glabrate. Leaves: stipules lanceolate, 5 mm, base unequally lobed; petiole 3.5–8 cm; rachis 0.6–1.5 cm; stipels triangular, 1–2 mm; leaflet blades ovate to ovate-lanceolate, 1.5–9 × 1.5–5 cm, base rounded. Peduncles to 10 cm. Inflorescences flexuous, floral nodes 2–11, sparse or clustered at apex (sometimes shorter in trailing stems, with cleistogamous flowers); bracts deciduous, lanceolate, 2 mm. Pedicels ascending, distally curved, 1.5–3 mm; bracteoles deciduous, lanceolate, 1 mm. Flowers: calyx tube 2 mm, lobes triangular, dark-veined; corolla pale yellow, reddish veined, 7–10 mm; banner oblong-orbiculate, with 2 appendages on inner face; wings oblong; keel incurved, short-beaked, distally expanded, 4 mm; style incurved, extending beyond stigma into conic tip. Legumes pendulous, brown, linear to ± falcate, cylindric, 2–3 × 0.4 cm, beak curved, relatively short, sparsely strigose to glabrescent. Seeds 1–4, light brown, oblong to reniform, 5 × 4 mm; hilum short, not raised.
Phenology: Flowering spring–fall.
Habitat: Waste or disturbed areas.
Elevation: 0–20 m.
Distribution
Introduced; Fla., Asia, introduced also widely in tropical regions.
Discussion
Vigna hosei was apparently introduced in the flora area as a cover crop but is no longer cultivated; it is naturalized in southern Florida.
