Herbs, 0.5–1.3 × 1–3 dm. Leaf blade oblong, 0.3–0.5 × 0.1–0.4 cm, grayish- or reddish-white-tomentose, margins not revolute. Scapes 5–13 cm, glabrous. Involucres 2.5–3.5 mm, sparsely tomen-tose. Flowers 2–4 mm. Achenes 2.5–3 mm.


Phenology: Flowering May–Jun.
Habitat: Gravelly to rocky ridges, chaparral communities, montane conifer woodlands
Elevation: 1700-1800 m

Discussion

Variety pinicola is known from two small populations in the mountains east of Tehachapi, Kern County.
