Astragalus montii

Plants 1–5 cm, strigose; from superficial or slightly subterranean branched caudex. Stems clustered, ascending to erect, strigose. Leaves 1.3–4.8 cm; stipules 2–4 mm; leaflets 5–13, blades lanceolate to oblong or elliptic, 2–8 mm, margins involute and not ciliate, surfaces strigose abaxially, glabrous adaxially. Peduncles reclined in fruit, 0.8–4.5 cm. Racemes 2–8-flowered, flowers ascending to spreading; axis 0.2–0.5 cm in fruit; bracts 1–3 mm; bracteoles 0. Pedicels 0.8–1.5 mm. Flowers 7.2–8 mm; calyx 3.3–4 mm, strigose, tube 2.2–2.5 mm, lobes triangular-subulate, 0.6–1.5 mm; corolla pink-purple, wing tips white. Legumes mottled, straight or nearly so, ovoid, 11–18 × 8–12 mm, membranous, opaque, strigose. Seeds 10.
Phenology: Flowering Jul–Aug.
Habitat: Openings in spruce-fir forests, plateau margins.
Elevation: 3300–3500 m.

Utah.
Discussion
Astragalus montii is a near, though disjunct, congener of A. limnocharis from Sanpete and Sevier counties. It is in the Center for Plant Conservation’s National Collection of Endangered Plants.
