|discussion=<p>Individuals of <i>Rhododendron maximum</i> are beautiful, cold-hardy shrubs and are frequently cultivated as ornamentals. Hybrids with <i>R. catawbiense</i> occur. This species has been attributed in standard floras to eastern Canada but not confirmed there by specimens.</p>
