Stems ascending to erect, 7–27 cm, glabrous or ± puberulent distally or at nodes, not glaucous. Leaves essentially cauline, basal leaves absent or reduced, ± leathery, glabrous, not glaucous; basal and proximal cauline 12–90(–105) × 3–23 mm, blade elliptic-lanceolate to oblanceolate, base tapered, margins entire, apex obtuse to acute; cauline 2–4 pairs, petiolate or sessile, 35–95(–107) × 11–30 mm, blade elliptic-lanceolate to oblanceolate, base tapered to truncate, apex obtuse to acute. Thyrses continuous, ± secund, 3–15 cm, axis glabrous or ± glandular, verticillasters 1–7, cymes 2–8-flowered, 2 per node; proximal bracts ovate to elliptic, 16–85 × 7–31 mm; peduncles and pedicels glabrous or ± glandular, peduncles to 15 mm, pedicels 1–3 mm. Flowers: calyx lobes ovate to lanceolate, 6.5–12 × 2.8–4.5 mm, margins erose, apex acuminate to caudate, ± glandular; corolla blue to violet, with violet nectar guides, ventricose, 18–33 mm, glabrous externally, glabrous internally, tube 7–9 mm, throat abruptly inflated, slightly constricted at orifice, 7–9 mm diam., rounded abaxially; stamens included or longer pair reaching orifice, pollen sacs divergent to nearly opposite, navicular-sigmoid, (1.8–)2.2–2.6 mm, dehiscing incompletely, connective not splitting, sides sparsely to moderately hispidulous or pubescent, hairs white, to 0.3 mm; sutures denticulate, teeth to 0.1 mm; staminode 13–17 mm, included, 0.5–0.9 mm diam., tip straight, glabrous or distal 1–3 mm pubescent, hairs yellow, to 0.5 mm; style 17–20 mm. Capsules 8–12 × 5–8 mm.


Phenology: Flowering Jun–Jul.
Habitat: Volcanic talus slopes.
Elevation: 1800–3000 m.
