Leaf blades: base cordate, apex acute to acuminate. Corollas purplish red with darker center. Capsules 25–30 mm, surrounded by accrescent calyx that even­tually disintegrates into a vas­cular network. 2n = 30.


Phenology: Flowering Nov–Jan.
Habitat: Thicket forests.
Elevation: 0–10 m.

Fla., Asia, Africa, introduced also in West Indies, Central America, South America, Pacific Islands (Guam, Hawaii, Samoa, Tahiti), Australia.

Discussion

Stictocardia tiliifolia is widely introduced and nat­uralized. The names Rivea campanulata (Linnaeus) House and S. campanulata (Linnaeus) Merrill have been misapplied to it.
