Herbs or subshrubs, herbaceous toward base, 2–5 dm, usually silver-hairy. Leaves silver-hairy; petiole 4–15 cm. Inflo­rescence bracts 8–9 mm. Racemes 14–40 cm. Flowers 14–18 mm.


Phenology: Flowering May–Jul.
Habitat: Dry slopes, upper chaparral and yellow pine forests.
Elevation: 1000–3000 m.

Distribution

Calif., Mexico (n Baja California).

Discussion

Variety austromontanus is known from the Tehachapi Mountains southward to northern Baja California.
