Plants densely matted. Stems prostrate. Leaflets: blade sur­faces silky-strigulose or villos­ulous adaxially. Corollas whit­ish, keel maculate, banner faintly purple-veined; banner 5.2–6.2 mm. Legumes sub­symmetrically lenticular, 3.5–5 mm.


Phenology: Flowering Aug–Sep.
Habitat: Stony ridgecrests above timber­line.
Elevation: 3000–3400 m.

Discussion

The ashy canescence results in the grayish hue to the tufts or mats of var. nubilus, which is endemic to Custer and Valley counties. D. Isely (1998) questioned whether this variety is any more significant than other local phases.
