Basal leaves (5–)10–30 cm. Cauline leaves gradually smaller distally, primary lobes ovate to narrowly linear, their margins sometimes again lobed or toothed. Involucres 6–10 mm. Phyllary tips hirsute-ciliate. Ray corollas 10–16 mm. Disc corollas 3.5–5 mm. Cypselae 3–4 mm; pappi 1–2 mm. 2n = 18.
Phenology: Flowering Apr–Jul.
Habitat: Grasslands, pinyon-juniper woodlands, desert scrub, roadsides
Elevation: 100–2000 m

Ariz., Ark., Colo., Kans., Mo., Nebr., N.Mex., Okla., S.Dak., Tex., Mexico (Chihuahua, Coahuila, Nuevo León, Tamaulipas).
