Leaflets 9–17 distally. Racemes (1 or)2(or 3)-flowered. Legumes 3-sided compressed, 8.5–11.5 mm, attenuate apically, beak elongate.


Phenology: Flowering Jul–Aug.
Habitat: Alpine tundra and krummholz, on talus.
Elevation: 2700–3500 m.

Discussion

D. Isely (1998) maintained this taxon at the specific level, although he pointed out that recent studies showed populations of Astragalus molybdenus of Colorado, Montana, and Wyoming (as treated here) to be closely related; populations of the former two states are more closely related than those of Wyoming.
