Flowers: sepal apices usually obtuse, rarely acuminate; style branches 2–3 mm, equal to sub­equal. 2n = 28.


Phenology: Flowering May–Aug.
Habitat: Coastal plain woods, sandy soils.
Elevation: 0–20 m.

Ala., Ga., Miss., N.J., N.C., S.C.

Discussion

Variety pickeringii is in the Center for Plant Conservation’s National Collection of Endangered Plants.
