Leaves: blades 6–15 cm × 2–4 mm, distalmost reduced to scales. Calyculus bractlets 1–5 mm. Involucres 12–18 × 4–5 mm. Phyllaries 16–20 mm, faces glabrous. Corollas 15–16 mm. Cypselae 8–10 mm; pappi 6–8 mm. 2n = 12.


Phenology: Flowering Jul–Sep.
Habitat: Sandy soils of stream banks, dunes, and sand hills in prairies
Elevation: 300–1500 m
