Plant aquatic, emergent. Rootstock nearly globose, 2-lobed. Leaves evergreen, bright green, pale toward base, spirally arranged, to 60 cm, pliant, gradually tapering to tip. Velum covering less than 3/4 of sporangium. Sporangium wall unpigmented. Megaspores white, 400–550 μm diam., cristate to reticulate with broken lamellate ridges; girdle obscure. Microspores light brown in mass, 24–34 μm, spinulose. 2n = 22.


Phenology: Spores mature summer.
Habitat: Emergent or in shallow water of upland lakes and bogs
