Annuals, 2–15 cm. Stems spreading. Leaves: blades ± cuneate, ± 10 mm, usually 3-lobed, ultimate margins entire, plane (apices ± rounded), faces ± woolly. Heads borne singly or in clusters. Peduncles ± 0.1 cm. Involucres campanulate to hemispheric, 2–3+ mm diam. Phyllaries 5–7, distinct. Ray florets 5–7; laminae yellow, ± 2 mm. Disc florets 10–20; corollas ± 2 mm (tubes cylindric, throats broadly cylindric, abruptly dilated, lobes glandular; anther appendages narrowly deltate, not glandular). Cypselae ± 2 mm; pappi usually of 10–15 ± lanceolate scales ± 1 mm, rarely 0. 2n = 14.
Phenology: Flowering Mar–Jul.
Habitat: Sandy openings in chaparral or coastal scrublands
Elevation: 0–1600 m
