Perennials, 9–20(–35) cm; taprooted, caudices essentially simple. Stems ascending to decumbent or prostrate, loosely strigose to hirtellous (hairs appressed-ascending to spreading, even-width, basal cells inclined), usually minutely glandular distally. Leaves basal (usually persistent) and cauline; basal blades usually narrowly oblanceolate to linear, rarely narrowly spatulate, 50–120(–150) × 3–6(–9) mm, cauline blades relatively unreduced distally, margins entire, 1–3-nerved, faces sparsely to moderately hirtellous to pilose, often minutely glandular. Heads (1–)3–7. Involucres 4–5.5 × 6–10(–12) mm. Phyllaries in 2–3 series (commonly strongly keeled to nearly folded), moderately hirsuto-villous or villous, densely minutely glandular. Ray (pistillate) florets 12–36 or 0; corollas pink to lavender or white, 4.5–8 mm, laminae slightly coiling or not. Disc corollas 2.5–3.5 mm. Cypselae 1.5–2.3 mm, 2-nerved, faces sparsely strigose; pappi: outer of setae, inner of 12–24 bristles.
