Stems prostrate or decumbent, 5–10 cm, densely white-tomentose. Leaves opposite; blade elliptic to obovate, 10–30 × 5–10 mm, base not auriculate or clasping, margins slightly serrate distally, slightly revolute, surfaces densely white-tomentose. Inflorescences axillary, flowers 1 or 2 per axil; bracts 0 mm. Pedicels 0 mm; bracteoles 1 or 2, 1–2 mm. Flowers: calyx lobes narrowly triangular, 2–3(–5) mm; corolla blue-purple to lavender, 6–7 mm, glabrous or puberulent, lobes 1.5–2 × 1.5–2 mm; style 1–2 mm. Capsules 2–3 mm; style not persistent. Seeds ellipsoid, 0.2–0.5 mm.
Phenology: Flowering Apr–Jul.
Habitat: Sandy soils, woodland openings, disturbed sites.
Elevation: 0–200 m.
Distribution
Tex., Mexico (Tamaulipas, Veracruz).
Discussion
Stemodia lanata is sometimes called S. tomentosa (Miller) Greenman & C. H. Thompson, a later homonym of S. tomentosa G. Don 1838.
