Leaf blades: base cordate, apex acute to acuminate. Corollas purplish red with darker center. Capsules 25–30 mm, surrounded by accrescent calyx that eventually disintegrates into a vascular network. 2n = 30.
Phenology: Flowering Nov–Jan.
Habitat: Thicket forests.
Elevation: 0–10 m.
Distribution
Fla., Asia, Africa, introduced also in West Indies, Central America, South America, Pacific Islands (Guam, Hawaii, Samoa, Tahiti), Australia.
Discussion
Stictocardia tiliifolia is widely introduced and naturalized. The names Rivea campanulata (Linnaeus) House and S. campanulata (Linnaeus) Merrill have been misapplied to it.
