Stems to 1 m, glaucous. Leaves: petiole 1–2 cm; blade deeply pedately 3-lobed, 2–6 cm wide, slightly succulent, lobes narrowly oblong to linear, 2–5 mm wide, surfaces glabrous. Inflorescences: staminate flowers 4–7(–20) in racemes 0.5–1.5 cm. Petals 3–4 mm. Fruits bright red, globose, 1–1.5 cm. Seeds (2–)5–9(–12), 5–6 mm.


Phenology: Flowering Jun–Sep.
Habitat: Rocky hills, draws, arroyos, flats, creosote-blackbrush, Chihuahuan desert scrub, commonly with Acacia, Chilopsis, Fallugia, Flourensia, Larrea, Opuntia, Parthenium, and Prosopis, mesquite-oak woodlands
Elevation: (300–)900–1600 m
