Plants 2–4 dm. Leaf blades oblong to oblanceolate or elliptic, (2–)3–5 × 0.8–2.5(–3) cm, tomentose abaxially, margins plane. Involucres (2.5–)3–3.5 mm. Perianths yellow.


Phenology: Flowering Jul–Nov.
Habitat: Sandy to clayey flats and slopes, saltbush, blackbrush, and sagebrush communities, pinyon-juniper woodlands
Elevation: 1000-1700 m

Discussion

Variety thompsoniae is found infrequently in Kane and Washington counties, Utah, and in Mohave County, Arizona.
