Herbs, 0.6–3.5 dm. Stems erect to decumbent, hairs incurved. Leaves: blade ovate, elliptic, or obovate proximally, often narrower distally, 7–30 × 4–7 mm, base cuneate, apex obtuse to truncate and mucronate, surfaces not translucent-punctate, hairs incurved. Inflorescences terminal or leaf-opposed, racemes, loose, 2.5–7 × 1.5–2.5 cm; peduncle 0.5–2 cm; bracts ovate. Pedicels 2–4.5 mm, pubescent. Flowers pale greenish yellow and purplish, 5–7 mm; sepals lanceolate, 1–2 mm; wings obovate, 5.7–6 × 2.8 mm, pubescent; keel 5.7–6 mm, pubescent. Capsules broadly oblong-ovoid to subglobose, 9–12 × 7–11 mm, not translucent-punctate, glabrous and ciliolate. Seeds 6 mm; aril 1–1.4 mm, lobes to 1/4 length of seed.
Phenology: Flowering spring–summer.
Habitat: Open or brushy limestone slopes and plains in scrub.
Elevation: 400–1100 m.
Distribution
Tex., Mexico (Coahuila, Nuevo León, Tamaulipas).
Discussion
In the flora area, Hebecarpa palmeri is known only from Val Verde County.
