Perianth bristles 1–4, much shorter than to nearly equaling achene, slender, smooth or very sparsely spinulose.
Phenology: Fruiting summer–fall.
Habitat: Coastal, freshwater tidal flats

N.B., Que., Maine, Va.
Discussion
Schoenoplectus smithii var. levisetus has been collected in Virginia but is now apparently extirpated.
