Plants perennial, erect or prostrate. Leaves alternate, sessile; blade typically widest at or near middle, margin entire. Staminate flowers in axillary glomerules or glomerules in short spikes. Fruiting bracteoles monomorphic, sessile, broadly ovate and spongy-thickened, almost completely united, margin entire or dentate, faces tuberculate. Seeds: radicle superior.
