Shrubs 1–2 m. Stems: twigs ± spinescent; short shoots present. Leaves alternate or fascicled; petiole absent; blade cuneate-obovate to oblanceolate, 5–23 × 2–15 mm, base cuneate, apex broadly obtuse to shallowly emarginate. Pedicels (fruiting) 0–2 mm. Flowers: sepals 0.5 mm; petals oblong, 3 mm. Drupes orange to bright red, 3–5 mm. Seeds yellow.
Phenology: Flowering Feb–Jul.
Habitat: Rocky hillsides, breaks.
Elevation: 100–600 m.
Distribution
Tex., Mexico (Baja California, Baja California Sur, Coahuila, Nuevo León, San Luis Potosí, Sonora, Tamaulipas).
Discussion
In the flora area, Schaefferia cuneifolia occurs in southern and western Texas.
