Shrubs, 0.5–1(–2) m; primary branches usually not thorn-tipped, secondary branches thorn-tipped, with short shoots and often some thorn-tipped tertiary branches, glabrous; internodes 1–3(–5) mm. Leaves: petiole 1–2 mm; blade spatulate, 4–12(–14) × 1.6–3 mm, subcoriaceous, margins entire, revolute, apex rounded to emarginate or acute, surfaces glabrous; venation raised, conspicuous abaxially, abaxial intervein surfaces with rounded transverse ridges, surface appearing as if molded in wax. Inflorescences on short shoots, 1–5-flowered. Pedicels (1.5–)2–3 mm. Flowers: petals 0. Drupes globose, 3.5–4.5 mm; stones 1-seeded.
Phenology: Flowering Apr–Jul.
Habitat: Stream banks, low hills, sandstone bluffs, gravelly slopes, disturbed sites, shrublands, shortgrass grasslands.
Elevation: 0–600 m.
Distribution
Tex., Mexico (Coahuila, Nuevo León, Tamaulipas).
Discussion
In the flora area, Condalia spathulata occurs in central and southern Texas.
