Pedicels 1.8–2.3 mm, ± equaling or longer than calyx. Calyces reddish purple at maturity, 1.7–2 mm. Capsules loosely racemose. Seeds (2–)3(–4).
Phenology: Flowering summer; fruiting late summer–fall.
Habitat: Dry, sandy sites, old shorelines
Elevation: 0–200 m
Distribution
Ont., Ill., Ind., Md., Mass., Mich., N.J., N.Y., Ohio, R.I.
Discussion
Variety moniliformis has a disjunct distribution along the northeastern Atlantic coast and on old shorelines near Lake Erie and Lake Michigan.
