Stems densely leafy, rigid, young branches densely lanose. Leaves: blades 2–5 cm. Corollas 6–8 mm. Cypselae 2.5–4 mm; pappi: bristles unequal, longest 5–6 mm.
Phenology: Flowering Dec–Mar.
Habitat: Gravel and caliche soils in dry scrub vegetation
Elevation: 30–70 m
Distribution
Tex., Mexico (Coahuila, Durango, Hidalgo, Michoacán, Nuevo León, San Luis Potosí, Tamaulipas, Zacatecas).
Discussion
Gochnatia hypoleuca occurs in southern Texas and in Mexico (to 4000 m). It is closely related to Gochnatia obtusata [treated by Cabrera as Gochnatia hypoleuca subsp. obtusata (S. F. Blake) Cabrera], a species of southern Mexico.
