Annuals, 3.5–30 cm; taprooted, eglandular or glandular. Leaves not densely overlapping, proximal to mid cauline blades oblanceolate to linear-oblanceolate, 4–15 × 1–4 mm, herbaceous, not clasping, flat, faces strigose, often orangish gland-dotted. Involucres cylindro-turbinate, 2.5–4 × 2.5–5 mm. Ray florets 5–18; corollas usually white, sometimes lavender-pink to deep lavender-rose. Disc florets 6–25, bisexual or central florets often functionally staminate. Cypselae 5(–6)-nerved, 1.6–2 mm, faces strigose; pappi in 2 series, outer of (4–)5(–6), scarious, irregular scales 0.1–1.4 mm plus inner of (4–)5(–6), tawny, awnlike, thick bristles 1.5–3 mm. 2n = 16.
