Plants 5–13 dm, thinly tomentose. Leaves: basal leaf blade (3–)8–20 × 0.3–1 cm, tomentose abaxially, glabrous adaxially. Peduncles 1–3 cm. Involucres turbinate, 6–7 × 3–5 mm. Flowers 8–15 mm, including 2–4(–7) mm stipelike base. Achenes 5–6 mm.


Phenology: Flowering Mar–Sep.
Habitat: Sandy flats and slopes, scrub oak and conifer woodlands
Elevation: 10-50 m

Discussion

Variety gnaphalifolium is federally listed as threatened and is known only from DeSoto, Highlands, Lake, Marion, Orange, Polk, Putnam, Sumter, and Volusia counties in central Florida.
