Herbs, annual, often stranded by low tide. Leaves emersed, sessile, phyllodial, lanceolate, or petiolate with blade spatulate, rarely sagittate. Inflorescences of 1–4 whorls, emersed; bracts connate. Flowers: pistillate with ring of sterile stamens; petals without purple spot at base. 2n = 22.
Phenology: Flowering summer–fall (Jul–Oct).
Habitat: Brackish to freshwater tidal mud flats and salt marshes
Elevation: 0–5 m
Distribution
