|discussion=<p>Endemic to the Big Bend region, Matelea texensis is known only from a few sites in Brewster County, south of Alpine. It is likely that some populations have been lost to road widening. Matelea texensis is most similar to M. producta, from which it differs by densely hirtellous corollas.</p>
