|discussion=<p>Variety pedunculatum is encountered infrequently on the western foothills of the Sierra <i>Nevada</i> in Amador, Butte, Calaveras, El Dorado, Mariposa, <i>Nevada</i>, Placer, Plumas, Sierra, Tulare, and Tuolumne counties. The feature that was the basis for the varietal epithet, a pedunculate involucre, is seen only rarely.</p>
