|discussion=<p><i>Cenchrus longispinus</i> grows in sandy woods, fields, and waste ground in southern Canada and the contiguous United States. Its range extends southwards to Venezuela. It is often confused with <i>C. spinifex</i> and <i>C. tribuloides</i>; see discussion under those species.</p>
