Two subspecies of <i>K. elatine</i> have been described [subsp. elatine and <i></i></i>subsp.<i><i> crinita</i> (Mabille) W. Greuter]; they are poorly defined (D. A. Sutton 1988; M. Ghebrehiwet 2001) and differentiated on the basis of indument density.</p>
