Plants 10–30(–45) cm. Stems glabrate or sparsely villous, densely stipitate-glandular. Leaves: basal blades 50–200 × 15–45 mm, margins entire or coarsely serrate, faces glabrate to sparsely villous, stipitate-glandular. Heads (1–)5–7. Involucres 8–12 × 12–20 mm. Phyllaries loose, subequal, bases chartaceous, apices green (faces stipitate-glandular).
Phenology: Flowering Jun–Aug.
Habitat: Wet gravelly meadows, forest openings, moist soils
Elevation: 1200–1800 m

Idaho, Oreg., Wash.
Discussion
Variety sonchifolia is recognized by its wider leaves and its preference for moist habitats. More study is needed to determine the status of this taxon.
