Phenology: Flowering spring–early summer.
Habitat: Rocky desert slopes and flats.

Discussion
Variety attenuatus is known from the lower Colorado River and is rather weakly differentiated from var. fremontii. Some specimens of var. fremontii from southern Utah, although far out of the range of var. attenuatus, approach it in leaflet shape and width.
