Flowers: staminode 8–9 × 1–2 mm, distal 6–8 mm densely villous, hairs to 2.5 mm.


Phenology: Flowering May–Jul.
Habitat: Sandy to gravelly sagebrush shrublands, pine-juniper, Gambel oak, ponderosa pine, and bristlecone pine woodlands.
Elevation: 1300–3200 m.

Variety pachyphyllus is reported from Carbon, Daggett, Duchesne, Uintah, and Wasatch counties.
