Leaves leathery, cauline blade ovate to subcordate, sometimes elliptic. Thyrses: proximal bracts suborbiculate to ovate. Flowers: calyx lobes 4–6 × 2.3–3 mm.
Phenology: Flowering May–Jun(–Aug).
Habitat: Rocky canyons, pine woodlands.
Elevation: 1400–2500 m.
Discussion
Variety regalis is known from the Guadalupe Mountains in New Mexico (Eddy County) and the Davis, Guadalupe, and Sierra Diablo mountains in western Texas (Culberson and Jeff Davis counties).
