Plants 5–15 cm. Leaves 1–10 cm, rachis longer than longest leaflet; leaflets 11–15, well distributed on rachis, blade surfaces sericeous. Peduncles erect, 2–15 cm, appressed-pilose, ascending-pilose, or villous-hirsute. Racemes 6–18-flowered. Calyces becoming swollen, accrescent in fruit, constricted at mouth, enclosing mature legume, 10–14(–18) mm. Corollas 15–18(–20) mm. Legumes falling enclosed within calyx prior to dehiscence, ovoid, 6–10 × 4–5 mm.


Phenology: Flowering spring–early summer.
Habitat: Sandy and gravelly bluffs and slopes, with sagebrush.
Elevation: 1300–3300 m.
