Herbs: larger plants usually with short primary branching only. Flowers: calyx 5–15 mm, lobes linear-oblong to lanceolate or occasionally subfoliaceous, 3–8(–10) mm; corolla (15–)18–25 mm, lobes 4–8 mm. 2n = 36.


Phenology: Flowering fall.
Habitat: Moist open woods, prairies, wet bluffs, open woods, roadsides.
Elevation: 200–600 m.
