Stems ascending to spreading or, sometimes, trailing, usually 2.5–5 dm, rarely longer, densely villosulous. Leaflet blades 8.5–10(–11) mm, surfaces densely villosulous. 2n = 14.


Phenology: Flowering mid–late summer.
Habitat: Sandy prairies, open, sandy woodlands, blowouts and semi-stabilized ground in inland sand dunes.
Elevation: 0–1500 m.

Discussion

In Texas, var. villosa is known from the northwestern part of the state, and its range does not overlap with var. grisea. Variety villosa is listed by the Committee on the Status of Endangered Wildlife in Canada as being threatened in Canada.
