Leaf blades ± ovate, 3–6 cm, base rounded to broadly cuneate, sinuses shallow (max LII 15–20%). Inflorescence branches glabrous. Flowers 24–26 mm diam. Pomes 15–20 mm diam.


Phenology: Flowering May; fruiting Sep–Oct.
Habitat: Brush, field margins, woodland edges
Elevation: 300 m

Discussion

Of conservation concern.

Variety gigantea is only known from Wisconsin and is hardly differentiated from var. schuettei except by its much larger flowers and larger fruit.
