Plants prostrate to spreading, thinly pubescent. Leaf blades oblong. Stems not disarticulating at each node. Inflorescences: bracts 3, whorled, connate proximally, leaflike, awn-tipped. Involucres urceolate, not ventricose basally, 5-toothed, without membranous or scarious margins; teeth erect, connate more than 3/4 their length, shallow, unequal, 1 prominent and 4 shorter and equal. Flowers 1; perianth white, sometimes with yellowish tube, glabrous; stamens 9; filaments distinct, adnate at base of floral tube. Achenes black, 3-gonous. Seeds: embryo curved.
