Flowers: floral tube 1–2.2 mm; sepals 1.2–3 mm; petals 2.2–4 mm, without red dots at base; style 2.8–5 mm, stigma surrounded by anthers at anthesis. 2n = 14.
Phenology: Flowering May–Jul.
Habitat: Shallow soil on granite outcrops, Pinus ponderosa forests.
Elevation: 1800–2400 m.
Discussion
Subspecies alticola is known from northeastern Fresno County and, possibly, the Merced River region in Mariposa County.
