Herbs perennial, caulescent; caudex subterranean. Hairs basifixed. Stems several to many. Stipules connate at proximal nodes. Leaves odd-pinnate, short-petiolate proximally, subsessile distally; leaflets (13 or)15–29(–35). Racemes densely flowered, flowers nodding and retrorsely imbricate. Calyx tubes subcylindric. Corollas ochroleucous, banner recurved through 45°, keel apex obtuse. Legumes persistent, stipitate, pendulous, oblong, narrowly elongate, 3-sided compressed, bilocular. Seeds 18–25.

Section Tiopsidei occurs in the mountains of Colorado, New Mexico, eastern Arizona, and eastern to north-central Utah.
