Herbs annual, caulescent; root-crown superficial. Hairs basifixed. Stems single or few. Stipules distinct. Leaves odd-pinnate, petiolate or subsessile; leaflets 7–13. Racemes subcapitate-verticillate, flowers suberect. Calyx tubes turbinate-campanulate. Corollas reddish violet, lilac, or whitish and lilac-tinged, [purple], banner recurved through 30°, keel apex bluntly triangular. Legumes persistent, sessile, erect, lanceoloid-oblong or narrowly oblong, 3-sided compressed, ± straight, bilocular. Seeds 5–9.

Distribution

Texas, Europe, Asia, n Africa.

Discussion

Species 26 (1 in the flora).

Section Sesamei is distributed in the Mediterranean Old World region and east to India and south-central Asia, in the Canary Islands, and in Texas.
