Herbs perennial, tuft- or mound-forming, acaulescent; caudex superficial. Hairs malpighian. Stems usually obsolete. Stipules distinct. Leaves odd-pinnate, petiolate; leaflets (1 or)3–13. Racemes subumbellate or loosely flowered, flowers ascending to spreading. Calyx tubes campanulate to short-cylindric. Corollas whitish, or pink-purple and wing tips whitish, banner recurved through 45–90°, wings deeply cleft, keel apex round or bluntly deltate. Legumes deciduous, sessile, ascending, narrowly oblong, 3-sided compressed, bilocular. Seeds 13–28.
