Herbs perennial, caulescent; caudex subterranean or superficial. Hairs basifixed. Stems few to several. Stipules distinct. Leaves odd-pinnate, short-petiolate; leaflets 3–23, terminal leaflet jointed or confluent. Racemes loosely flowered, flowers ascending sometimes spreading or declined in age. Calyx tubes cylindric or deeply campanulate. Corollas purple, pink-purple, or yellowish to white, banner recurved through 45°, keel apex obtuse. Legumes deciduous, sessile, pendulous or deflexed, lanceoloid- or oblong-ellipsoid, oblong-oblanceoloid, or obliquely or clavately oblong, slightly to strongly obcompressed or 4-sided, straight, curved (sometimes sigmoidally), or coiled, unilocular. Seeds 28–60.
