Flowers: petals usually white, conspicuously villose adaxially; ovules 8 or 9.


Phenology: Flowering late Jun–early Aug.
Habitat: Hilltops, bluffs, badlands, on shale and limestone bedrock.
Elevation: 1000–2300 m.

Distribution

Colo., Kans., Mont., Nebr., N.Dak., S.Dak., Wyo.

Discussion

Variety hyalinus occurs from southeastern Montana through eastern Wyoming to southwestern South Dakota, western Nebraska, northwestern Kansas, and northeastern Colorado. It was also reported for North Dakota by Ced. L. Porter (1951).
