Stems usually 1–15(–25) cm. Flowers (6.2–)7.4–13.6(–14.8) mm; calyx 3.2–6.6 mm, tube 2.2–4 mm, lobes 0.9–2.8(–3) mm. Legumes straight or gently incurved, (6–)7–14 × 2.5–4.2 mm, usually villosulous, rarely glabrous, hairs loosely ascend-ing, black or fuscous, often mixed with white, or all white, 0.4–0.8 mm; stipe 1.4–3 mm. 2n = 16, 32.


Phenology: Flowering mid Apr–Sep.
Habitat: Arctic and alpine tundra, heath, woods, stream banks, riverbeds, terraces, moraines, gravelly roadsides.
Elevation: 50–3900 m.

Distribution

Greenland, Alta., B.C., Man., Nfld. and Labr., N.W.T., Nunavut, Ont., Que., Sask., Yukon, Alaska, Colo., Idaho, Minn., Mont., Nev., N.Mex., Oreg., S.Dak., Utah, Wash., Wis., Wyo., Eurasia.
